Position Purpose

 

The Manager, Community Investment is responsible for managing, creating and implementing fundraising opportunities that support Memphis Grizzlies House at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by raising at least $100k per NBA season. The Manager will also be responsible for all holiday giving, Tickets for Kids, Donations In-Kind and all NBA-League wide mandated “giving” initiatives. The Manager, Community Investment will build relationships with Grizzlies Community Partners and assist the organization in “giving back to the community”.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

§  Plan, manage and implement all fundraising opportunities including: Grizz Gala, Grizzlies Annual Tip Off Luncheon, In Arena and Online Auction Series, Grizz Scoreboard Messages, Grizzlies In Arena Shoot Out, etc...

§  Serves as primary contact for Grizzlies Community Partner St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Grizzlies House at St. Jude.

§  Organizes and facilitates all holiday giving initiatives including: Grizzlies Holiday Toy Drive, Lady Bears Thanksgiving Dinner and Angel Tree.

§  Manage all NBA mandated Team Signing Days.

§  Format and maintain the Community Investment Department Event Calendar.

§  Manage and prepare content for the Community Investment section on grizzlies.com.

§  Attends community programs on the Grizzlies behalf.

§  Manage department budget as it relates to all holiday giving and special events.

§  Manage the Grizzlies Tickets for Kids Program.

§  Manage the Grizzlies Donations In Kind Program.

§  Prepares updates on all fundraising and holiday giving initiatives and provides information to the Director, Community Investment.

§  Manage Coordinator, Community Investment and Intern to ensure proper coordination of all Grizzlies educational and donations programs.

§  Other related duties as required

 

 

Required Skills, Experience & Abilities

 

§  Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university in a related field.

§  3-4 years of experience in creating and managing community programs and special events.

§  Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet.

§  Knowledge of professional sports and sports philanthropy preferred.

§  Familiarity with non-profit organizations and development.

§  Familiarity of charitable programs, initiatives, outreach and organizations in the Greater Memphis and Shelby County area.

§  Ability to produce creative and relevant written materials for variety publications.

§  Ability to build relationships in order to develop and mentor personnel.

§  Excellent people skills with the ability to interact with all types of people, including staff and management, professional and elite athletes, members of media, senior government officials and corporate representatives and children.

§  Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

§  Excellent organizational skills required.

§  Ability to balance major priorities on a daily basis.

§  Must be a team player with a strong customer service focus.

§  Must be able to work independently.

§  Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

§  Knowledge and passion for NBA basketball.

§  Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as required.

§  Strong work ethic and vision strongly desired.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist FII staff at summer camp for children receiving community resources/services at FII.
  • Develop literacy component of each session of the summer camp.
  • Create weekly educational and cultural field trips for campers.
  • Develop pre- and post-assessment to measure cultural awareness and improvements in literacy of participants.
  • Assess data and create summer camps’ data report.
  • Develop evaluation tool for parents/guardians of the campers’ involvement.
  • Assist camp director with other camp assignments as needed.   

    Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of program administration and supervision
  • Competency in oral and written communication
  • Ability to take the initiative, and to implement short and long range plans concurrently, and to work with the minimum direct supervision.
  • Well-organized with the ability to shift priorities in response to changing needs and adjust

Education and Experience

The position requires an individual with a Bachelor’s degree or some college in a human services or social science area or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 2 years experience in working with children & youth programs.  Experience in non profit community service work is a plus.

About the Job

The AmeriCorps* VISTA member will work full-time from August 1, 2012 to July 31, 2013 assisting Argenta Community Development Corporation, a North Little Rock, Arkansas nonprofit, to further grow and implement the Vestal Urban Farm. Vestal Urban Farm, also located in North Little Rock in a predominantly low-income area, is a youth-inspired agriculture, community building and organizing initiative that encourages additional academic opportunities, health and wellness initiatives, self-esteem, work ethic, environmental stewardship, community engagement and an entrepreneurial spirit among 220 elementary and high school students through hands-on participation in all aspects of the creation, implementation, managing and marketing of sustainable urban farm.

 

We are seeking that ideal energetic, self-directed individual to play a vital role in the development of the Farm, build relationships with current project partners, especially students and engage residents.This position is full-time, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend and evening work. Flexibility is allowed to accommodate workload.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with project partners to develop and assist in farming operations
  • Work with staff and project partners to identify sources and build a revenue generating self-sustaining farm operation through grants, events, commercial partnerships, produce sales and corporate, individual and in-kind donations
  • Assist with the implementation of the Farm Produce Stand
  • Assist with the implementation of the Farm's EBT program
  • Work with schools and assigned school staff to select and implement agriculture curriculum
  • Develop a farm activity calendar in cooperation with schools and project partners and coordinate and promote work days  
  • Work with designated project partner to lay the foundation to develop a Farm summer youth employment program for 2013 based on successful local, regional and national models
  • Attract at least 50 volunteers, with specific outreach to residents
  • Work with program manager to develop corporate volunteer program and attract at least 10 businesses
  • Assist with creation of farm operations manual
  • Host as well as attend project related meetings as needed
  • Assist with the marketing, public relations and branding in print, broadcast and online, including updating the farm webpage
  • Organize educational and food related workshops to interested participants
  • Conduct farm tours as needed

Skills Needed

  • Experience working in and comfortable with professional and networking environments
  • Experience working and comfortable with a range of socioeconomic backgrounds and ages
  • Excellent communication skills including written/oral
  • Proficient with most current versions of Microsoft Office
  • Adobe Design Creative Suite, a plus 
  • Proficient with social media including Twitter, Facebook, You Tube 
  • Agriculture experience, knowledge of vermiculture and aquaponics, a plus
  • Able to operate small farm equipment such as a tiller 
  • Strong problem solving skills, as well as self-motivated and self-directed
  • Understands the importance of teamwork and accountability
  • Familiar with SMART goals and logic models, a plus
